Mr. Waseem Mukhtar assumed the role of Chairman at the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on August 10, 2023, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his distinguished career. Graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore, back in 1992, Mr. Waseem's journey has been characterized by an unwavering commitment to public service and a wealth of experience spanning nearly three decades
Commencing his professional journey in 1993 as a member of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) Group, Mr. Waseem embarked on a path that led him through the intricacies of policy formulation, implementation, and public service delivery across various levels of government. From his tenure as a Special Secretary in the Communication & Works Department and Health Department of the Government of Punjab, to his roles as Secretary in the Transport Department and Housing & Public Health Engineering Departments, Mr. Waseem's tenure has been marked by his profound contributions to diverse sectors.
Mr. Waseem's most substantial role came as the Additional Secretary of the Power Division from 2018 to 2022. During this pivotal period, he helmed critical responsibilities encompassing power policy, financial management, tariff regulations, and key appointments within the power sector. His leadership was instrumental in guiding the release of significant financial tranches, steering major organizations and spearheading the formulation of the National Electricity Policy and Plan. In his trailblazing journey, Mr. Waseem also assumed additional charges as MD of NEECA, PEPCO, and CEO of CPPAG, further showcasing his versatility and dedication to power sector reform. His illustrious federal service culminated on August 09, 2023, as he retired from his role as Special Secretary at the Establishment Division, Government of Pakistan leaving behind a legacy of remarkable accomplishments.
